Just a bit later, a bundle with no game and one controller sold for $400. The system launched in the US, with two controllers and the game Magician Lord, at $650. The games cost about $200, partly because their size was comparable to N64 carts half a decade before the N64 itself, and partly because of their architecture the RAM chips needed to play the game were built into the cart rather than in the system. The cost was high, not just for the processing power, but for the joysticks and games. The format, however, wouldn't really take off until the advent and growth of CD gaming a few years later. Fidelity came at a price though, with releases typically costing around £200 each - hardcore enthusiast territory. The original Multi-Video System cabinets were popular with arcade owners as they could house multiple ROM cartridges, allowing them to offer up to six games at a time with only a fraction of the floor space, while the home machine, the Advanced Entertainment System, offered arcade-perfect conversions. Launched in 1990, the NEO GEO differentiated itself from competition - such as Sega's Mega Drive and the Super Nintendo - by mirroring its high-powered arcade games for home players.

True to the games' arcade roots, titles are cycling through a 'Now Playing' demo mode, where you can play them for free using the browser emulator.
